Personal Profile: Patricia Rayner (Mrs)

I am a retired English teacher living in Nottighamshire, with a love of literature, and also a love of gardening and travel. I have been visiting Japan with my husband twice a year for the past 18 years. Our son has a Japanese wife and 3 lovely children.

It is through our frequent trips to Japan, our extensive travels within Japan as well as socialising with our daughter-in-law’s family, that I have become aware of what a fascinating and beautiful country Japan is. It is also a country of contrasts: one steeped in tradition and yet embracing the modern world. These talks, I hope, convey the many facets of this country, as well as the deep affection we feel for it.

"Many thanks for your interesting talk on Thursday 18th January 2018.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I shall view Japanese gardens in a different light from now on.
I've often seen Japanese Gardens as being manicured & precise - your talk explained why this is. I look forward to seeing Japanese gardens in the future with 'new eyes."

Diane, on behalf of Hemlock Garden Club, Bramcote, Notts.

"Thank you for giving us such a fascinating talk and showing us such beautiful photos … you left us wanting to hear much more of that lovely country and its heritage and a wish to go there."

South Trent Wives’ Fellowship (President)

"We all enjoyed your talk …Your knowledge of the culture and way of life was most interesting – at one with nature."

East Bridgford Garden Club (Chairperson)

"Thank you for such an interesting & informative talk on Japanese food & culture."

Moreton, Fiskerton & Rolleston WI (President)

I always try to keep my talks up to date with the latest information and photos. This is accomplished through my frequent visits to the Land of the Rising Sun, which allows me to speak to the local residents first-hand.
